Our kitchen is led by Chef Saint Cardona, a Colombian chef who’s called Curaçao home for many years and brings deep knowledge of the island’s multicultural flavors. His culinary journey includes time spent in Spain and France, where he refined his skills and developed a love for European techniques and traditions. Behind the flame

Kandela started with one simple idea: to create a space where everyone—locals, tourists, and expats alike—could connect over great food and good energy. Inspired by Latin roots, influenced by Mediterranean and Dutch flavors, and shaped by Curaçao’s vibrant mix of cultures, Kandela brings together rich ingredients, flame-grilled cooking, and warm hospitality. We believe in flavor, fire, and that special kind of vibe that only happens when people gather around a great meal.

Leading the kitchen is Chef Saint Cardona, a Colombian culinary artist who brings his passion for bold flavors and fresh ingredients to every dish. His journey has taken him across the European continent, where he refined his techniques and deepened his appreciation for global cuisine. With this diverse experience, Chef Saint creates a dining experience that’s both authentic and unique, combining Latin roots with the vibrant spirit of Curaçao.

On the operational scenes, you’ll also find Izzy Arias, our restaurant manager. Originally from Venezuela, Izzy has called Curaçao home for many years and has developed a deep appreciation for the island’s diverse cultures. With a love for hospitality and a keen understanding of the island’s flavors, Izzy is dedicated to making sure every guest feels like part of the Kandela family. Together with Chef Saint, Izzy helps bring the warmth and energy that defines our restaurant.
